Skip Tracing Services
Definition
Skip Tracing (also skip tracing, or debtor and fugitive recovery) is the process of locating a person’s whereabouts for any number of purposes. A skip tracer is someone who performs this task, which may be the person’s primary occupation. The term “skip” (as a noun) refers to the person being searched for and is derived from the idiomatic expression “to skip town”, meaning to depart (perhaps in a rush), leaving minimal clues behind to “trace” the “skip” to a new location.
Skip tracing tactics may be employed by a debt collector, process server, bail bondsman or bail agency enforcer (bounty hunters), repossession agent, private investigator, lawyer, police detective, journalist, or by any person attempting to locate a subject whose contact information is not immediately known. Similar techniques have also been utilized by investigators to locate witnesses in criminal trials.
Methods Used
Skip tracing is performed by collecting as much information as possible about the subject. The information is then analyzed, reduced, and verified. Sometimes the subject’s current whereabouts are in the data but are clouded by the sheer amount of information or disinformation. Often, the job becomes more than mere research since one must often employ methods of social engineering, which involves calling or visiting former neighbors, or other known contacts to ask about the subject, sometimes under false or misleading pretenses.
Records that “skip tracers” use may include phone number databases, credit reports (including information provided on a loan application, credit card application, and in other debt collector databases), job application information, criminal background checks, utility bills (electricity, gas, water, sewage, phone, internet, and cable), social security, disability, and public tax information. While some of these records may be publicly available, some cannot be accessed without an appropriate search warrant, which is generally only available to law enforcement or licensed private investigators.
Even when no specific information is returned, public and private databases exist that cross-reference skip-tracing information with others the “skip” may have lived with in the recent past. For instance, if previous records show a “skip” lived in the same house as a third party, the third party may also be “skip-traced” in an effort to locate the “skip”.

Process Services
We can handle your service of civil process locally and throughout the country. Our servers are experienced and professional. You will also find our network of affiliate Process Servers throughout the United States are of the highest levels of professionalism and efficiency. We offer several types of service: Routine Service, Rush Service, Priority Rush Service, and Emergency Rush Service. Our local service areas in Wisconsin include St. Croix County, Pierce County, Polk County, and Dunn County. We offer local services in Minnesota as well. They include Washington County, Dakota County, Ramsey County, and Hennepin County.
Routine Service Local
Civil process in the St. Croix and Pierce County area is generally attempted within 72hrs from the date we receive the service. Effecting service may take longer than three to five days due to unforeseen events, such as the recipient being unavailable or evading service. If we encounter excessive delays or the due date is approaching and we have not yet completed service, we will communicate with or clients to ensure that the job is handled correctly.
Rush Service Local
Rush service is attempted within 24-48 hours from the time we receive your paperwork for personal service. Corporate service is attempted by the end of the next business day. In many instances we attempt service on the same day of receipt. Requests for service that must be completed within 72 hours are considered Rush service.
Out of Town Service Routine
For service outside of our local counties, regular service is generally attempted within 3 to 5 days from the date that we receive the paperwork. In some cases, service is completed much sooner but that is dependent on the location and accuracy of the information provided.
Out of Town Service Rush
For Rush service anywhere outside of our local counties, we will make sure the server has the documents as quickly as possible to ensure they are able to attempt rush service. It may be necessary for the documents to be sent by UPS, etc. Rush service is attempted within 24-48 hours from the time we receive the documents.
Special Requests/Emergency Service/Same Day Service
Service on a specific date & time is considered service by appointment; please call our office for rates and to make service arrangements. Any other service which is outside of the above stated descriptions can be handled by our office. We can accommodate your requests; however, it may require special services for which fees will be determined at the time of your request.
